DIY Wedding

Foodie Stylish Relaxed Colourful Winter South London Wedding

Wow, it's taken me a while to get around to blog about this wedding. Back from Feb and my last event at Brixton East - my spiritual event home. Such great memories from this gem of a venue. Sad to see it go, but pleased to finish on such a high!

What a joy it was to work with Rachel & Jack! They trusted me to deliver their vision in full and helped them put their dream day together. Read their testimonial below which says it much better than me. Thanks to my brilliant team and suppliers working hard on the day xxx

Hi Dita, just wanted to drop you a line to say a huge thank you for helping us transform our ideas into reality, and for your (not insignificant) part in creating the wedding we envisaged.
From the day we met you after falling in love with Brixton East, we both knew you were exactly who we needed on our team!!
You understood implicitly what we meant when we said we didn’t want our day to be too ‘weddingy’, and guided us through the potentially daunting world of a dry hire wedding with such expertise, that all notions of stress were taken away!
Whilst we maintained total creative control (something incredibly important to us as we wanted our wedding to reflect us) your partial planning service saved us from hours of googling and hassle, and resulted in you finding us the most incredible chef, who couldn’t have met our brief any better (literally the best food I’ve ever eaten and a view echoed by all our guests).
It also took away the need for us to organise the bar or staff (jobs we didn’t really want!!), and again resulted in the most professional, brilliant team looking after us on the day, with fab service from beginning to end.
You were always available, but never pushy (no mad wedding planner vibes here!!!), and having you around to co-ordinate deliveries and suppliers on both the prep day and the wedding day meant that everything flowed seamlessly and we honestly didn’t have to worry about a single thing except for getting married and enjoying ourselves (which we did immensely!!!) We literally couldn’t have created such a smooth running, relaxed, perfect wedding without you, so thanks a million!! Keep doing what you’re doing!

Lots of love,
Rachel and Jack xxxxxx

Non-traditional DIY Wedding Tips

Planning a DIY wedding? Fantastic, just don’t do it all.

Making the decision to plan your own DIY wedding is a massive commitment (although much less significant than the one on the big day) and one not to be undertaken lightly. Embellishing your wedding with personal touches like crafty little decorations or perhaps your own home-baked cake is absolutely wonderful, but what about when it comes down to the logistics?

What about when things get frantic?

Being behind the scenes at any event, especially a wedding, can get hectic and if you’re the person in charge of running your special day, you definitely don’t want to be dealing with the caterer being late or solving issues with a supplier. Even at the best-planned events problems can happen and you shouldn’t be stressing about figuring them out in the midst of your “I dos.”

Even if you have friends or family experienced in the world of event planning, it can be quite unfair to lump them with responsibility, especially if you want them to enjoy your nuptials just as much as you. Probably the best kind of DIY wedding is the partial DIY wedding. Hiring an experienced planner can save you from making costly mistakes, while still letting you retain that hands-on approach you desire.

But what can I do on my own?

There are, of course, a lot of options to explore before you hire a planner, and that’s only logical. Invites, cakes (or cheese!), décor, or your own non-traditional ideas, are all realistic jobs you can take on - it’s a rule-free world when it comes to DIY, especially if you think outside the box; floristry may not be your forté, but you may be able to come up with something far more unique and cost-effective than the traditional flower arrangement.

So where do I need help?

The partial planner comes in where your personal touches leave off - fielding their own, personally picked teams including caterers, bar and serving staff, and with the expertise to run them all smoothly, you can’t afford not to hire one. Oftentimes the best dry-hire venues will be far more on-board if they know that you’ve got a professional team behind you, and this is where their contacts in the events industry come in handy.

I love nothing more than helping creative, non-traditional couples realise their dream wedding. Not being your typical wedding planner, on top of everything else, I’m a fully-licensed bar operator, and my background is in bespoke food, drink and production. I bring all of my knowledge to the table at every event; think of it like hiring a best-friend professional working just for you.

If you’ve read this far then it’s likely you are in the middle of or looking to plan a quirky DIY wedding. Also, it’s likely you’re feeling the stress. I operate as both a full and partial event organiser where you can rely on me to guide you through all the important, overwhelming decisions you make, making it a stress-free process.

Stylish Street Food Brassband Brixton East Wedding

Met with Abi exactly a year before her and Warrens big day. They weren't planning an elaborate big fancy day, quite the opposite in fact, however, Abi & Warren are all about having a great time so they knew they wanted a personal day filled with LOTS of fun stuff and also knew someone had to manage all of this on the day. And it wasn't going to be them or family and friends. That's where I came in.

My involvement is so different from couple to couple. Most often I do partial planning and coordination. Here I organised the event team on the day to serve the food and run the bar, put the additional A/V package together, booked in their DJ's and took care of all the hire items - and added a few extras from the event kit like brown paper and plenty of church candles!

A&W's first date was at The Joint in Brixton Village so they wanted to recreate that special moment at their wedding. Everyone loved the informal setting and the tasty buns and sides.

Abi lived in New Orleans for 5 years (love that place so much!) - when booking a band, it only came naturally to pick a Brass Band - Brasstermind were brilliant and following by top East London party DJ's.

Brixton East 1871 is such an incredible venue. Unusual and packed with interesting features. We had such a fun day looking after these two lovebirds and all their guests.

Vintage Style Autumnal Stoke Newington London Wedding

I love weddings all year around, but there's something really special about Autumn and winter weddings where you can really play with cosy autumnal colours for the design of the tablescape. A throwback to one of last year's lovely winter weddings.

Bec & Matt got me involved to work with them to create their autumnal vintage inspired Nov wedding in one of London's many unusual locations. This Hackney Venue is dry hire venue so everything is brought in, we hanged festoons to create a cosy vintage fairground feel, beautiful flowers and installation from Herbert & Isles and together with my bar team we designed last minute tasty winter his & hers cocktails.

Fun-tastic Graffiti Backdrop Brixton Summer Wedding

I loved nothing more than working with couples where the brief is just a lot of FUN. These guys knew what they wanted... a real memorable day with their closest friends and family in an urban setting. Something very different from the traditional weddings setup. They found exactly what they were after in amazing Brixton East 1871. Saturday in Brixton means market and buzzing street life. Love that they brought this local flavour into their wedding pictures.

Scandinavian Minimalist Gothic London Wedding

The reason I love putting together weddings is that I get to meet and work with couples with wonderful personalities and ideas. This wedding was so much fun to plan and by far the most personal! I'll let the images speak for themselves. It truly was a day that everyone will remember and speak about for years to come. Guests commented that it was THE BEST WEDDING EVER! - So happy myself and my team could be there to make that happen. X

My husband and I wanted something different, original and individual which is a tall order for a wedding. However, Dita created a magical day that exceeded all our expectations. She created the most stunning martini bar for our arrival, chose the gorgeous table ware, and went out of her way to make us happy. (Made more difficult by my less than clear vision). Her staff were so wonderful - they really cared about our guests and ensuring that we had a superb day. The food was delicious and just kept coming. Our guests all complimented us on the generosity of spirit that shone from every aspect. Moreover, thanks to Dita, we both managed to remain calm, safe in the knowledge that we were in safe hands. Dita: thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

"We would not have had the wedding we'd hoped for had it not been for Dita. Every step of the way she was there to help us and advise us with every aspect of the day.She went above and beyond to ensure it was the best day of our lives. I cannot recommend her and her services highly enough!"

“When we first started planning the wedding, we were very much ‘we can do this ourselves’ – we were so wrong.  Dita Rosted, our planner, is actually friends with the Brixton venue and contacted us directly and as soon as we met her we knew she would be brilliant.  I am somewhat of a control freak and I was able to let go completely and let her do her thing.”

Summer Loving Kiwi Wedding

Hilary & Aidan...A true Brixtonian couple, multi cultured and wanted to keep things local. Wedding was set at cool Brixton East with all it's industrial charm, food from Dirty Apron (Peckham/Deptford) & Mamma Dough (Brixton). Bar was run by the ever great Travelling Gin Company. H&A have settled in London from New Zealand. Great to see so many family members making the journey over to truly experience their new life here. Everyone had small tasks that made everyone feel involved without it being stressful.

"Thank you for all your help in the weeks leading up to, and on the wedding day itself. Everything came together well and ran really smoothly on the day. We've had a lot of comments about the bus, and in particular the pimms, so that was definitely worth the brainstorming/ effort! A big thanks to your staff, who were all really nice and very professional."
